Delighted to hear that THANK YOU STAN has just been awarded an 'Award of Merit - Special Mention' in both the Documentary Short and Special Purpose Productions categories at the indieFEST online festival. Even beyond life Sir Stan is still gaining the recognition he so richly deserves!
Now that THANK YOU STAN is out and achieving recognition around the world its time to refocus energies on the development of the SPIRIT OF THE GAME movie! A really wonderful aspect of this is to re-visit Stan's old haunts in Stoke-on-Trent, England - specifically the Stoke City FC stadiums old and new. Stan's finest playing days were at the old Victoria Ground in Stoke, now sadly demolished. How wonderful it is therefore that we can use modern CG technology to re-create the old and magical Victoria Ground as part of our Spirit of the Game story. Even seeing artwork, we can imagine the spirit of Sir Stan walking around the stands, re-living some of the great moments he created there! Ultimately we will be able to move in and around the entire stadium - which I'm sure will bring a tear to the eyes of many of the older Stoke City supporters who have fond memories of Stan's glory days at the wonderful old ground. Not to neglect the present however, scenes involving the modern Britannia Stadium will also feature in the movie. The wonderful environment art here has been created for the film by Steve Worden (Victoria Ground) and Peter Moehrle (Britannia Stadium).
The International Times dates back to the late 1960's but today its still alive and kicking - and has just published an item about Sir Stan and THANK YOU STAN film tribute. Thanks for recognizing us both - and the books of Geoff Francis, which inspired the latter about the first - 'IT'!
For a great insight into the generous, giving and humble side of Sir Stan in terrible Apartheid times in South Africa, here's a brief item that has recently aired on CNBCAfrica TV. Listen to just a little of Stan's African stand against racism - then perhaps imagine how the pampered sporting 'stars' of today might behave in similar rough-it-out circumstances. The item starts at around 3:10 minutes in and goes on for about 2 minutes. (And the eagle-eyed among you will recognize visual references to the book by Geoff Francis'... "STANLEY MATTHEWS: The Black Man With A White Face"... which has inspired both THANK YOU STAN and our subsequent SPIRIT OF THE GAME movie production!)
The fine writer and soccer pundit, Bobby McMahon, wrote an excellent piece about Sir Stan for the Forbes.com website. Entitled 'Christian Ronaldo The World's Most Marketable Player But Who Was Soccer's First Global Pitchman', Bobby shares some wonderful insights into the life and times of Sir Stan. However, at the bottom of page three of his article, he references our Stan Tribute Film and provides a link to where it can be seen. Bravo Bobby! We always wanted to be recognized by Forbes ~ but we thought it might be because of our financial prowess, not our artistic one! :)
We just want to show our appreciation to all fans of Stan ~ and traditional hand-drawn animation~ for visiting this site to view our Centenary Tribute version of THANK YOU STAN on the anniversary of his birthday this year, February 1st 2015. We had twenty times the number of visitors to the site on that day ~ which only goes to show that the legend of Sir Stan is as strong in death as it was during his lifetime. As a result of this (and the fact that many people couldn't visit the site on what coincidentally was 'Super Bowl' day in the USA) we have extended the screening time of the film for another week! So thank you to everyone who made Stan's 100th birthday a day to remember! :)
Great to get a positive write-up for THANK YOU STAN - and for our plans to bring Stan to the big screen through out SPIRIT OF THE GAME movie project! Still a long way to go on the funding front yet but the target would be to have the film - with Stan starring - in time for the next World Cup tournament! If Stan be with us - who can be against us? :)
Great to see Stan make headlines again on the Football Association website in England! He was a mega star of the England team, as well as throughout the British game during his lifetime. However, its the mark of a great man that in death he's still headline news at the very top of the game. (And not a bad word is spoken about this amazing gentle giant anywhere!) Many thanks to the FA for adding the film to this historic page too! :)
2 years in the making - its great to finally get the birthday tribute out there on Stan's Centenary day! :)
Yet another Super Bowl-related promotional piece, on the eve of the big game, to draw attention to the birthday tribute screening of THANK YOU STAN...
